CHALLENGES
The existing yard lacked definition and remained consistently muddy, making it difficult to use or maintain. The space extended outward without structure or focal points, creating an unfinished and underutilized backyard. Without proper grading and intentional design, the property felt open-ended and lacked a sense of destination.
THE PLAN
The design strategy centered on anchoring the property with a strong architectural focal point: an Alpine A-Frame pavilion. Positioned to define the main gathering area, the pavilion created a covered space for cooking and entertaining while establishing structure within the open yard.
An outdoor kitchen was installed beneath the pavilion for protected functionality, while a hot tub was placed just behind it to create a secondary relaxation zone with privacy and separation. A dedicated fire feature with integrated wood storage boxes was positioned to encourage gathering and evening use.

Proper grading and base preparation were essential to correcting the muddy conditions and ensuring long-term stability.
THE RESULTS
What was once a muddy, undefined space is now a structured outdoor retreat with clearly defined living zones.
The Alpine A-Frame pavilion anchors the yard with architectural presence, while the outdoor kitchen beneath it creates a central hub for entertaining. The hot tub provides a private escape just steps away, and the fire feature establishes a natural gathering point.
Through thoughtful grading and intentional layout, the yard was transformed from an open, unusable expanse into a purposeful and inviting outdoor environment built for comfort and connection.
