CHALLENGES
The existing pool area had been poorly installed by a previous contractor, resulting in unnecessary elevation changes and awkward transitions throughout the space. Homeowners had to step down three stairs to reach the patio, followed by additional scattered steps that disrupted flow and usability. Retaining around the dive rocks lacked proper structure, and the yard remained muddy due to improper grading and drainage. Late winter and early spring weather added further complexity, with rain delays extending the six-week build timeline.
THE PLAN
The project began by simplifying the grade and eliminating excessive step transitions to create a unified, flowing layout around the pool. Structural corrections were made to stabilize retaining areas near the dive rocks, and the failing hardscape base was removed and rebuilt properly.
A redesigned outdoor kitchen was integrated into the new layout, improving circulation and functionality. Once the hardscape was structurally sound, the entire property was regraded to promote positive drainage. The installation of Ledge Smooth XL 3-Piece Sandstone with a double border created both visual definition and long-term perimeter stability.

The final phase included sodding the entire yard to complete the transformation and eliminate the persistent mud issues.
