CHALLENGES
The existing grade held moisture and created unstable conditions that had to be corrected before any outdoor living features could be installed. Access also required careful coordination, as major elements like the fiberglass pool would need to be craned over the home once the site was properly prepared.
THE PLAN
The plan began with resolving the foundation of the space. A full drainage system was installed to redirect water away from the yard and create a dry, stable base for construction. Once drainage was corrected, extensive grading and structural fill were brought in to level the property and prepare for the build. From there, the design focused on creating a cohesive outdoor retreat featuring a heated saltwater fiberglass pool, pavilion, outdoor kitchen, fireplace, sitting wall, and surrounding hardscape.
THE RESULTS
What began as a backyard challenged by standing water and uneven ground is now a fully realized Finksburg retreat.
The transformation began below the surface, where a comprehensive drainage system was installed to correct persistent water issues and allow the property to function properly. With drainage in place, large amounts of structural fill and grading were brought in to level the yard and create a stable foundation for construction.
Once prepared, the saltwater fiberglass pool was carefully craned over the home and set into place, a moment that marked a major milestone in the build. The heated pool now serves as the centerpiece of the space, delivering comfort and extended seasonal use.
Surrounding the pool, a thoughtfully planned layout brings together a custom pavilion, outdoor kitchen, fireplace, and sitting wall to create distinct areas for gathering and relaxation. Each element was positioned to flow naturally across the newly graded landscape, allowing the homeowners to fully enjoy their outdoor space while working from home and entertaining year round.
As the project came together, outdoor lighting was layered throughout the property to highlight architectural features and extend usability into the evening hours. What was once a problematic yard is now a polished and functional outdoor living environment, built with purpose, precision, and a clear vision for everyday enjoyment.
